Janis received an MA in Marriage and Family Therapy from Liberty University subsequent to her retirement from a 48-year career in health care as a Medical Laboratory Technician at the VA Hospital in Salem, VA and Lewis Gale Hospital Salem, VA. Janis served 3 1/2 yeas active-duty military and 4 years in the Army Reserves.
Her mental health experience includes Intensive In-Home services, Mental Health Skill Building, Parent Aide, Mentoring, Crisis Intervention, as well as Outpatient Marriage, Family, Couples, and Individual Counseling. She is currently pursuing licensure as a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) in the state of Virginia under the supervision of Jason O’Brien, LPC, LMFT.
She utilizes a variety of theoretical approaches including: client centered, solution oriented, and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). Her focus is to improve relationships and life circumstances by empowering her clients to take control of their own life and make more informed choices to produce more effective outcomes.
